Seminar on the 114 Surahs of the Quran

Every letter received carries a specific purpose and message from the sender to the recipient. For example, an invitation letter conveys the hope for attendance, a summons letter provides an important reminder, while an appreciation letter conveys gratitude. Similarly, the holy book of the Quran, which contains 114 surahs revealed by Allah to the Prophet Muhammad SAW and all mankind, has a profound message and requires attention to understand the reason for its revelation and the wisdom it contains.

In this day and age, it is very important for readers of the Quran to understand the essence (ibrah) of each surah in a concise yet profound way. By knowing the reasons for the revelation (asbabun nuzul) and the main themes of the surahs, readers can appreciate the wisdom of the Quran. This understanding facilitates the process of reflection and becomes a meaningful guide in life, in addition to encouraging the formation of noble morals and characters.

The Quran begins with Surah Al-Fatihah, which opens the book and the reader’s heart to understand its teachings. Surahs such as Al-Baqarah emphasize the responsibilities of Muslims, Ali-‘Imran strengthens faith on the right path, while An-Nisa’ calls for justice and protection of the weak. The Quran ends with Surah An-Nas, which summarizes the human values based on the Quran, achieved through a deep journey through 114 inspiring surahs.

Ibrah 114 is designed to help increase skills in interacting with the Quran as follows:

1️⃣ Knowing the theme and purpose of each surah to give a close impression of the Quran.

2️⃣Approach each surah so that your behavior and character resemble the advice being conveyed.

3️⃣Understanding the relationship between one surah and another is beneficial in understanding the greatness of the Quran, the clarity of its message, the regularity of its arrangement and style of language.

Alhamdulillah, the one-day seminar held on 2 August 2025 at Auditorium 1, Central Lecture Complex, UMT, successfully brought together approximately 150 participants to reflect on the noble verses of the Quran.

The invited panel, Ustaz Syaari Abdul Rahman, the Main Trainer of the Tadabbur Centre, successfully attracted the interest of the participants from the beginning of the seminar until the end of the evening session with the resolution to continue to meditate with the Al-Quran through the 7 trees that were presented.

Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre would like to express its appreciation and gratitude to the Terengganu Sahabat Tadabbur Al-Quran Association for their collaboration in this programme. PISM also welcomes participants’ suggestions for holding more seminars like this in the future.
